Wasted

I called him.  Spoke to him.  Make of that what you will.

My take?  It's all real.  It is not performance art, calculated griefing or forum gaming.

He says he speaks some English, but struggles with it.  He says he tried to get a job at Linden Lab, but felt he was discriminated against when he was turned down.  He says he has serious mental health issues.  He says he really believes he is posting as a concerned activist working on a good cause.  He says it really does bother him when he is mocked and teased, but he feels he is sacrificing himself for the greater good.  (All of this is information that can be obtained from his public posting and not new information from a private conversation.)

One woman's opinion.

Fine print:
His contact information is freely given, publicly posted and easily accessed.  I will not, however, post it here.

p.s.
He said he would "salute" me on the forums and invited me to speak with him again.

ETA:  Wasted gave me permission to post about him and our conversation.

ETA2:  Congratulations to Wasted who has recently obtained a job at a petrol refinery.

ETA3:  I think this is my Wasted "salute."   ;)

Good Times on gV

High stakes too.

Cato Badger, not to be confused with Caitlin Tobias, is currently engaged in a semantics battle with Dakota Cody over whether the Badger always says "its not always malevolence but occasionally incompetence."

Cato Badger said:
"As I always say its not always malevolence but occasionally incompetence."

Dakota Cody said:
"Liar. This is the first time I've ever seen you say that."

And so on for twelve more posts and two pages with no end currently in sight.

Take a look at the choice of insult being bandied about between the two.

"You are HumptyDumptying."

Caitlin Tobias, for her part, is currently passing tout like a battle ship in the argumentative night, just missing each other over some long not-lost and not-forgotten SLF forum grudge that involved, you guessed it, Pep.  Much of this is going on in, of all places, the "gV Unofficial Useless Statistics" thread opened by Lias.

Just prior to all that the argument over who can lay claim to the forum use of "I'll be your Huckleberry" raised it's shaky head again. Lias continues to support her gV claim and Grady's SC MKII banner claim. Fuckwad's first use of it on the Utherforums remains largely uncontested, though Maryanne feels she used it more and there may be a higher claim in that. Which has more weight? First usage or amount of usage? I went off-forum in pointing out the 1993 usage in the movie "Tombstone" and Pep took us to 1900 with his blog post on the subject.

Jolene and Lias have been arguing over who is stalking who.  I'm not even gonna link ya.  It's all over the place.

Remember these blog posts?

gV Drama...It started with a little thread about desktop images.
gV Drama...It started with a little thread about desktop images. (Part II)

And this thread on gV? "What Computer Desktop Image Do You Use?"

Well you can get new episodes in these threads:

"Reddit pervs and pedos put paid to: no more Loli for you"
"2 or 3 Lollies, cosplay and circumstance."

Enjoy.

Wasted is back again shilling for his own forum and going on about how, yep, you guessed it, "The SL Related Forums Positively Suck."  He's also been going through a heart-wrenching roller coaster ride in his relationship with Lias.   All he can do now is stand back and trust that she is doing the right thing.

Did I mention that ew0k made a brief and nearly forgettable visit to gV?  Yes?  No?  Oh well, never mind.

"Forum Feedback" is back! Current discussion? The alt policy and an opt-out feature.  Funnily enough, the "legal threats/actions, death threats, etc" thread also sprang back to life.

nina said:
"sockpuppeting generally means using an alt to agree with your own arguments or team up with yourself against an adversary. or perhaps even using the alt to agree with an adversary and align with them using a strawman argument or otherwise trying to discredit their argument via 'guilt by association'.
rorting the trophy system is just that. using an alt to like your own posts to inflate trophy points and such."
"i have been contemplating the idea of having two opt-out options. one option to opt out of nsfw and another to opt out of sfw. if one opted out of either they wouldnt see any trace of any forum with that classification."

Lias said:
"I only did that to try to get normal functionality so I could like other's posts, select a mood, make an album and do some other updates.
If people could register a new account as an alt account and it could be given normal functionality immediately then that would be helpful."

Maryanne and Pants got a little overwhelmed.

Pants said:
"Oh dear, i cannot sort the CaTos and the catos and the Caitys. Who are the bad guys? I need to know"
"me groans. Ok just tell me who to Like please"

Maryanne said:
"Wait....
You have a manifesto?!?
I gotta quit skipping meetings."

masonboob lover got booted and banned for being underage while forum whoring and perving the "Naughty" thread.

masonboob lover said:
"ha ha very funny im 12 years old bitch and my iq is prolly on the up side of 110"
What is the up side of 110?

It appears Bunnie got both her groove and her forum avatar back as the Spam can is gone.

Speaking of Bunnie, the latest post in the "Standing invitation for SCMK-II and SLU People who have an axe to grind....." thread is this one:

Bunnie said:
"After hiding out for I don't recall how long, I see Don Mill is Bulldick! posted over on SLU. Must be looking for someone else to file a suit on. Cristiano better watch his step! ;)"
Last, but not least, consider enjoying a few drinks in the Saloon.  You'll need 'em.

ETA:  In addition to the "gV Unofficial Useless Statistics" thread started less than 24 hours ago, we now have a new companion thread complete with detailed scorecard graphic courtesy of Lias. "Absolutely Useless Unofficial gV Statistics"

ETA2:  This one is from Earth in the "Absolutely Useless Unofficial gV Statistics" thread.

ETA3: The Badger explains "Humptydumptying."

"Humptydumptying means claiming to use a word in a particular way that is not the way in which it is usually perceived to be used like using say when nothing has been voiced or in forums when you have been caught using the wrong word like prosperity rather than posterity at which point you attempt to claim the moral high ground by saying that everyone knew what you meant and that it was only a bunch of letters with spaces on each end anyway and english is not a fixed language and if enough people use a word wrongly it becomes accepted usage and anyway english is not my first language and how many languages do you speak anyway and you are discriminating against me because I am a foreigner and I am a professor of linguistics in my own country and am an international soccer referee and can say penalty in sixteen different languages."

And this helpful quote and link from the changeling operating Mitch Wexler's avatar at present*:

"There is the problem of humptydumptying, whereby a person gives an unusual and private meaning to a word with a more common and public definition and thus causes unnecessary confusion."

*Mitch used to have a bit of a tendency to prompt other posters to say JFGI on the screen, under their breath and/or in their minds, so I have no idea who this Googling, surfing, quoting, linking fool operating his avatar now is or what has happened to Mitch.  It's what prompted me to say this in gV earlier.  Not that I'm complaining, mind you.

Fine print: "Fool" here is meant playfully as someone doing a lot of something with a certain amount of abandon, not an unintelligent jerk.

Ooh, look. A philosophy forum.

"You know what that reminds me of? This might annoy you though, but still: there was like a "movement" a little while ago, where homosexuals wanted to start calling themselves "Gays" rather than homosexuals because homosexual had too negative of a connotation or something. Well this caused a lot of consternation, because using the word "gay" to describe someone colloquially means you're calling them gay, and trying to refer to homosexuals exclusively as "gays" implied that they were gay to the exclusion of those who were not "gay". They tried arguing it, like "but gay is a noun!", but everyone knew it wasn't, and eventually that silliness just kind of became accepted because otherwise the homosexuals would have complained of homophobic discrimination.
Pep (And so we lost a good meaningful word.)"

Cato Badger said:
"Did you like it because I thought that since I have been posting like Pep and everybody has been suggesting I was Pep I would give everyone ammunition to point to in days to come to prove I was Pep.
Pep (Did it strike the right sort of resonant chord???)"

ETA8:  Poor Saffy Pants.  We're going to drive her mad at this rate.    See here.  Hey, this is why I pick a name and a forum pic (and even a color) and stick with it.   ;)

gV Drama...It started with a little thread about desktop images. (Part II)

Here's an update on the "What Computer Desktop Image Do You Use?" thread on gV.

A new poster personality, Rudolph Ukka, made an appearance on gV (SLF and FC too) and caused some alt hunting, natch, before one of the planets orbited him.

Rudi said:
"I saw this fucking thread written about in LeeHeres blog so I singed up to come and say that you are a bunch of fucking pussywhipped morons leading a fucking wimp of a fucking owner by the nose becuase Immy has not been proved to break any laws not even the rules of this fucking forum. Immy has got an infraction becuase she did something against the kultur of this forum or at least the kultur of the most vocal fucking morons here. You suggest that fucking Lucifer over in fucking SCII has stated that cartoon lolis are illegal in his country but you dont even know what fucking country he lives in. Is it Ireland England or fucking Scotland. And what are you going to do if I tell you that fucking lolcatz are fucking illegal in fucking Tristan Da Cunha? Does that mean that you all have to promise to stop posting fucking pictures of fucking lolcatz or even links to sites that have fucking lolcatz. And get rid of all the fucking posts in this forum that have fucking lolcatz in them. Rudi"
Charming, eh?

Lias responded:
"LeeHere has a blog? How frightening."
Pep said on FC:
"Pep (is surprised Rudi's posts are still up in the official forum; are the mods there confused about whether his posts have already been moderated?)"
Which is all the more humorous both if you know the current moderation practices on SLF and if you've seen Rudi's posts there.

colleen was accused of Donning the thread (as in posting like Don Mills, not actually wearing the thread).

A discussion about the merits of the individual sartorial styles of both colleen and Lias ensued nonetheless.

A discussion about the merits and significance of high post and like counts ensued.

Storm entered the fray and stirred things up managing to both publicize FC and draw Jolene's rapt attention in the process, which inevitably led to a rehash of the Seicher Rae-Ima-Willem brouhaha on FC and even a little of the Jolene-Jumpman-Wasted debacle and many more posts and pages.  Lain's Larry was mentioned.  Fuckwad too.  Even Gnat was invoked.  Scylla too, natch.  And of course, the more current drama surrounding the rumor that the Ts are, in fact, our own Storm and Venus.  Ima finally sorted out her password problems and jumped into the mud with everyone else.  If you haven't posted or been mentioned in this thread yet, you might want to call your publicist.

Storm said:
"FORUM CONFIDENTIAL killed Mulch. Stayed tune for details."
Storm said:
"I have a question for this forum, or anybody who is reading this thread: how many alts do you think it will take to put out the fire that Jolene started on this thread? I say 4."
Jolene said:
"I just vehemently will fight his little games to get his blog posted anywhere."
LeeHere said:
"Well, I guess Storm is the Donnie Deutsch Trump of the SL-circuit then. I want to see a reality machinima next."
colleen said:
"I do see, but .....just like IRL The Enquirer ....wants to know. Headlines gotta come from somewhere. huh"
nina weighed in on Immy's links.
"i dont have much of an issue with the link personally
that being said, it could be interpreted as a violation of the community standards, so mercury was right to infract imo."
nina finally got around to asking colleen and Lias about their falling out.
"i must have missed something...
i thought you two were mates?"
LeeHere said:
"Jeebus, but you are behind. Still not reading your own forum?"
nina said:
"i am aware that they havent gotten on for a while now, but this is the first i have asked about it."
Bladyblue (Lias) made an appearance.

Mitch threw spaghetti at the wall.

Mary and I reminisced about my Candy Tetris quest.

GradyE bucked the thread trend and posted a desktop image with a subtle little plug for Mulch's new Feted Inner Hangout forum.  I've already been instructed not to call it "fetid."

colleen may have summed up the thread best when she said:
"Christ its like a nightmare that never ends."

gV Drama...It started with a little thread about desktop images.

This is the OP.

Lias said:
"I like a dark screen image that's not too busy."
And she included this picture.

So far, so good.

Kita posted links to hers.

Tarzan posted this.
"I have had this one since even before she was famous."

"Can't. It'll probably get me banned. =^-^="
This is where I imagine veterans of SC MKII, SLU and the SL blogorums roll their eyes, groan and push flashbacks of old threads out of their heads. Non-veterans or the unfamiliar might be doing a combination of "uh oh" and "what?" Regardless, anyone reading that one line knows it's the beginning.

Couple more posts about desktop images. People ignoring the bait.  Here comes more chum.

Immy wades back in and on post #9 contributes a post that has since been edited, debated, defended and derided multiple times with no end currently in sight.  [Warning:  Think twice about clicking the links (here and below).  Immy likes controversial lolicon images and tends to post from the full continuum with the qualifier that one end of the continuum is her wheelhouse and the other end of the continuum is what a minority of other people enjoy, but, ya know, check it out or something.]
"I'll do it this way: #ECCHI# http://darkly-cute.com/images/Desktop 110807.jpg #ECCHI# open at your own risk. =^-^=
It's a dual-screen set up and I make a big enough image to span both, each with its own scene. Set to tile and it fits perfectly. (^_^)y
Oh, I can show off my workplace desktop..."

"Ain't I the narcissist? =^-^="

"WARNING** This site goes even beyond ~MY~ boundaries -- Lolibooru <link broken by me - see explanation below>
But, anyway. (^_^)y"

"#1 rule of online safety: Unless you're clearly aware that you're directly seeking that which is behind the link, DON'T CLICK THE LINK!"

"Blind rage is entertaining."

More postings of desktop images and then post # 19.

Lain (is Bams) said:
"Linking to pornographic images of children isn't exactly above board with the rules, now is it?
It's clearly material we have outlined as inappropriate for posting, I don't see a link to the material as much different, and I'm pretty sure the laws will fall in that direction as well.
I, for one, would appreciate you having more tact and respect and keeping this filth to yourself in the future.
Thanks in advance."
Aaaand we're off to the races.

Here's a quick bullet summary:

  • Immy posted links to potentially illegal pornographic images thereby endangering both the site and the members who might have clicked on the second link.
  • Immy posted links and not images and members were not compelled to click the links.
  • Members weren't warned either.
  • The pictures are of drawings, not actual people.  No one was harmed in the making of them.
  • The pictures are illegal in some countries and offensive to many people.
  • The gV community standards say "child pornography or the sexualisation of a child, real or not, is explicitly forbidden" and no shock gore either and we agreed not to put the site in legal jeopardy.
  • Immy is trolling.  Again.
  • Immy is a hero for being open, honest and vulnerable and exercising such great restraint.
  • Immy is just posting.
  • Immy thinks the pics are cute and on-topic.  She also thinks they express joy, freedom and liberation.
  • Immy objects to her favorite form of art being characterized as filth.
  • Immy hates being an adult, but is forced into it in real and virtual lives.
  • Immy is a married middle-aged man with a compulsion to post lolicon pics, seek attention and cause drama.
  • Immy is like a flasher on a subway.
  • Lias is old enough to be Immy's mother.
  • Lias sounds like colleen's mother.
  • Lias is accused of harping.
  • Tarzan tells Lias to "shut up."
  • Immy wants a cat.
  • Someone shoots a confidential email to PETA.
  • People state and quote laws and rules and so forth.  Jurisdictions are discussed.
  • People tell each other they are wrong.
  • People accuse each other of net nannying.
  • Everyone is just expressing opinions as they have a right to do.
  • Immy wants to know why, if these images are illegal as so many people are telling her, are they still up and why have they been up for years?
  • What Immy actually knows or doesn't know is debated.
  • People are clutching pearls and being provincial and fussy.
  • People are just asking Immy to respect the wishes of the community members.
  • Lain (is Bams) does a pseudo-flounce.
  • Lain (is Bams) returns for a quick summary and chastisement.
  • Lain (is Bams) CoCos the thread.
  • Lain (is Bams) Godwins the thread.
  • Tarzan Godwins the thread with more Freud.
  • Mary invokes the Archivist.
  • Everybody else invokes Wasted.
  • Another image is posted for comparison and discussion purposes.
  • Storm tells everyone he has a picture of Lias on his desktop (clearly baiting Orfeu who posted a pic early on and buggered off before the drama fired up.)
  • Bunnie supplies the thread memes:  pilgrims and reruns.
  • Jolene provides an updated summary on page 14.
  • Lias provides the first list of the thread.
  • Kick interprets and mediates.
  • I get slaphappy.
  • A planet gives out infraction points.
  • Lurkers either mentally slit their wrists or eagerly refresh for more.
Oh, and CaTo posted this:  Tiny-smiley-sleeping-alarm.gif

And Lias made a banner.

Here's Immy's post about her room. Post #32.  Brace yourself.
"No. That is actually my Windows desktop. (^_^)

And, this is my room. (^_^)"

I'll link you to a post that has the second link, the more inflammatory pic site, rather than repost that link on my own site.  You really want to see it, you can click through to gV, click the link there and head on over to Lolibooru. Yes, I did click. I know what you'll see if and when you get there. Don't say you weren't warned.

Blog & Forum Snapshot (August 8, 2011)

Real Travels in a Virtual World has a post by S0phia Inkpen about golf courses in Second Life called "Golf Aruba." I'm a golfer, so that particular post caught my eye.

S0phia Inkpen said:
"Golf courses in sl! Virtual worlds are the only place where I have no objections to the game (actually I have no objections to the game per se, I have objections to the golf courses themselves)."
She doesn't explain why she has objections to the golf courses in real life, possibly because she wanted to keep the post short, light and mostly about the pictures and Second Life, but left to my own assumptions, I'm guessing her objections are based on environmental grounds, a not uncommon objection to golf courses.

From a Wikipedia article:
"Environmental concerns over the use of land for golf courses have grown over the past fifty years. Specific issues include the amount of water and chemical pesticides and fertilizers used for maintenance, as well as the destruction of wetlands and other environmentally important areas during construction."

Pep has entitled his latest provocative and pithy post "Official: The Global Recession is all the fault of the LWLs."  Is there anyone here among us who does not yet know what he means by "LWL"?  No?  Good.

Speaking of provocative (but not pithy), Ishtara never fails to deliver in that respect.  Consider this latest blog post title:  "Of Psychoactive Sperm, Gushing Women, and Men Who Picture Their Wives in Horseshoes."  Better yet, read, comment and let us know what you think.  Be forewarned, however...Ishtara sympathetically addresses a topic that is guaranteed to dramatically offend the vast majority of readers out there.  No, it's not pedophilia, but it is a very close second.  Proceed with caution or bypass completely.  Just don't say I didn't warn you.

My posting is often considered provocative too... wait... that makes it sound much better than what the actual commentary has been, the actual commentary being more along the lines of "instigating, shit-stirring, trouble-making troll."  My motives were recently questioned here and here.  This post may well be considered an act of instigation, so perhaps I should reflect on my motivation for it.  In the meantime, perhaps you will enjoy some of the responses I got when I put the question back out there to the rest of the forum.  I received some in PMs that were totally post-worthy, but probably inappropriate to post here given the medium (private channel) so you will just be left to wonder about those.  (Now what was my motivation for saying that?)

Lee said:

"Alright everybody. What's your forum posting motivation? ;)"

"Hmmm... *Scratches chin*

I'd say my main motivation is fun.
It's like hanging out with a bunch of people, many who I'd call friend, and just shootin the shit.
There's drama here and there and whatever and I get involved with that usually.
But for the most part, I'm here for the laughs and good times... and all the information on a huge variety of shit that I get to learn about.

So, basically... fun, fun, drama, fun, learning about shit... and more fun.
(Oh yeah, and getting my name known for that mythical day when Bang Rumpus actually gets finished. ;) )"
Mary said:
"I have this character flaw where I am compelled to argue with idiots. I know it's a waste of time and that it's like teaching a pig to sing. But I do it anyways.

I should probably seek counseling about that or something. I've been trying to break the habit for awhile now."
Orfeu, as you probably already know, said:
"My Motivation is simple.
I am a fuckwit, and dont know any better.

As for Lee...I should think it is obvious to any impartial observer.

She is Evil.
Pure Concentrated Evil.
She pulls our strings like an Evil Puppet-Master.

So if any of you have a beef with me...just remember, it wasnt my fault.
Lee made me do it."

Prokofy Neva covers an extremely popular topic with his post "Second Life Needs a Live Music Blog."  I would direct him to some SL live music sites, blogs, blog posts and even forums, but my observation is that Neva prefers to find such things on his own, if at all.  I don't mean to be dismissive of Neva or Neva's post.  I'm thrilled that Neva is again taking an interest in the rich live music scene in Second Life and I agree that most of the live music blog content out there is more of the "here is a live musician in SL and his genre is the blues and I really enjoyed his show" variety rather than actual musical criticism.  As much as people write about live music in SL, and there is a lot of writing about live music in SL  (right behind fashion, destinations and SL operations and politics), there really isn't a whole lot of informed critical analysis or Rolling Stone journalistic style review.  Maybe we could get Envoy or Orfeu on that.  I used to write a kind of basic SL live music blog myself, but I kept it in a social group on a forum and it, and all the content save the pictures, were deleted...and I don't have the musical background of an Envoy or Orfeu.  Seicher Rae got into SL Live Music blogging at one time, but her content has also been deleted.  At any rate, I'm glad Neva brought it up.  It's a ceaselessly interesting topic to me and many others and it also gives me a chance to tell you that Guitar Zane and Senjata Witt are two of my favorite live music artists in Second Life. (I gushed profusely and prolifically about Guitar Zane in forum threads and the social group blog and my SL pic albums over on RLetc.  I wear my Senjata Witt SL t-shirt a lot.  Good thing clothes don't wear out in SL.)

Speaking of live music, though not in SL...

Wasted wants to view my blog but is having a great deal of difficult because of the "mature content" warning. I suppose it's good to know the net nanny content-control software works.
"leehere, why don´t you remove that warning about the mature content? I never can read your blog, it doesn´t work on firefox for me."

Lastly, check out this fun find Magnus Brody blogged about in his post "Spock Is Not Impressed."

p.s.
I think it would be fun if Neva got in on the forum and blog critiquing biz on a regular, formal, structured kind of basis (as opposed to the drive-by shooting basis).  We could even give him a head start.

Wasted Sees Me Too or Wasted Channels Lias During Apprenticeship

1.  Lias made a "LeeHere I see you" thread on gotVirtual.net (Feb 28, 2011).
Lias said: "Don't be that person on the internet following someone around being snarky, passive agressive and just rude. You may feign ignorance, but:
Now you are over at SLU giving likes to SCII Mods lobbing insults at me. We can co-exist without the bullshit. I don't want to have a year and a half of you showing up everywhere I am in the metaverse with some snarky 'joke' directed at me. I am just not amused.
Latch onto someone else. I am not the one."

2. Wasted made a "Leehere I see you" on WastedLife.com.ar (Aug 3, 2011).
Wasted said: "Leehere don´t be that stalker cat behind the window, I´m watching you  "
I love the playful irony of "don't be a stalker" and "I'm watching you."  (Never mind the whole "Here are my links, come see my website and videos" and "Aha!  You looked!" game.  Ah, Wasted logic.  I love a good parody thread.)

3.  Wasted posted these posts today.

Wasted said:  "Does anyone read the leehere´s blog leeherevw.blogspot.com ?
leehere, why don´t you remove that warning about the mature content? I never can read your blog, it doesn´t work on firefox for me."

I see you too, Wasted.

PSA:  Watch out for that whole clicking links and post-response buttons on forums stuff.  It's a trap!

p.s.
Yes, there are readers.  You can see them making comments.  No, I'm not removing the warning about mature content, because I post, ya know, mature content.  As for Firefox, I'm reliably informed that there are numerous other browsers with which to view blogs.  Good luck with that.
