Profiteering Protest and a Shot at Whiskey

If you read this humble little excuse for a part-time hobby blog, then you know I am a big fan of the art of Whiskey (Mon)day, which is why I got my hackles up when a friend of mine linked me to a deviantART page where someone, who is not Whiskey, has posted one of Whiskey's pictures as her own.

I know how hard-won Whiskey's art is because she blogs about the complexities and difficulties of her bittersweet life.  That knowledge makes this transgression seem all the more vile to me.  These are not hastily cobbled together lolcat or demotivational poster pics for quick laughs on forums.  Whiskey's pictures are thoughtful creations representing pieces of her very being.

Based on the growing howl of protests in both deviantART and Second Life venues, Whiskey was not the only victim of this theft of a piece of artistic soul.

There is a word teachers use on the school grounds when children are cruel to each other that is sounding in my mind right now, "Unacceptable!"

If you find this casual theft of something so significant as abhorrent as I do, perhaps you will join us in protesting the theft of the art of Whiskey and her fellow artists.

And bekidarling, if you are listening or reading, please remove the stolen content from your deviantART account.

It's just a response to Botgirl and Whiskey's picture challenge.  Don't get too excited.

"Single Frame Stories": A New Challenge from Botgirl Questi and Whiskey Monday

Crap Mariner has been challenging us to say it in 100 words or less.  Now Botgirl and Whiskey want to know if we can say it in a single frame.  The gauntlet has been thrown down, the challenge is on, and the game is afoot!

"Each Saturday we’ll offer a new word or phrase for a prompt. Participants will each create a Single Frame Story based on the prompt of the week, consisting of a single image with up to 140 optional characters of text. The image can be a photo, screen shot, drawing or painting. The text can be integrated into the image or used as a caption or title."

"To participate, email your image to SingleFrameStories@gmail.com. We’ll aggregate all the submissions and present them here on the following Saturday. You can also upload images to our Flickr Group. (If you submit images to the Flickr group, please specify the date/prompt of your image.)"

"This challenge is open to anyone, everyone, and your submission doesn't have to be an SL snapshot. It can be painted, sketched, typed or whatever floats your boat. I hope you'll consider submitting something."

Hilarity Ensued (More Peening)

So Whiskey Monday, who is a marvelous writer (check out her blog and her Twitter feed), put a bug in my ear and a bee in my bonnet when she told me about a contest in Harlow Heslop's blog post, "The Golden Peen...Contest?".

I read Harlow's post and it immediately captured my attention as it did several others who found the idea irresistible.  Take the shining, polished golden peen and make creative and/or funny pictures with it and submit them to Harlow for judging.  Golden!  (Submissions are due Friday, May 25, 2012.)

Harlow says the idea came to her when Strawberry Singh (another blogger) gave her a golden peen as a gift.

Sales of the golden peen exploded and the creator, Chefkoch was, naturally, curious.  So he posted about it and guessed that the sales were generated by a blog post made by SpaceCase Munster on her (super fun) blog, "Virtual Vagabond."

SpaceCase let him know that not only were the sales largely generated by interest in Harlow's blog post, but that people were enthusiastically posting their peen pics on the Second Life Feeds and Flickr and other places.  Chefkoch went hunting for peen pics and found a veritable treasure trove.  He was delighted!  So he put together a mash up of the current entries as of today.  His post is a great way to see all the pics in one spot.  Check it out and see if you don't catch Peen Fever.  Join the fun!  If you do, link us!

Whiskey Monday (Better Than the Usual Monday)

I just discovered this blog and Twitter feed.  Serendipitous, which I almost spelled with a "P."  Whiskey Monday is pop-culture-y, ironic, clever, funny, adult, kinda snarky and NSFW and her blog has heart...and guts and... metaphorical organ-y stuff like that.  "I laughed, I cried.  It was better than Cats."  Just the way I like it.  If that's your cup of mash too, check it out.
